My new “milk”

Posted by slowlygoingvegan on September 2, 2009

ryzaGoing dairy free has been pretty easy for me. Except for the cheese part which I still struggle with at times. I have yet to find a dairy free “cheese” that I can call my new “cheese”…any suggestions are welcome. I have tried a few but was not impressed with any of them. I realize nothing will be exactly like the real thing, but if you know of something that comes pretty darn close, I’d love to hear about it!

So back to this milk post…cutting regular milk out was a breeze. After talking with my naturopath about it and doing my own research, it was clear that milk was no longer for me.

For a while, I didn’t drink any alternative.  I tried other brands of rice milks, some soy milks, but did not like them at all (because our oldest child has allergies to certain nuts, almond milk is not an option). Then I came upon a new product at the grocery store called Ryza. It is Canadian made by a Canadian company out in BC. It’s made with organic brown rice, is fortified, contains no added sugar or oils. I picked some up and have been hooked ever since.

I drink Ryza rice milk almost every day, I cook with it I bake with it. I love it! They have added some new flavours to the lineup, vanilla (have not tried it yet), and I hear chocolate has been added, though it has not made an appearance at my grocery store just yet.

I’ll be looking out for it 🙂
